Srinagar June 8 : The college contractuals in Jammu and Kashmir seek job security on the same pattern like in other parts of the country.
The academic arrangement candidates of different colleges of the JKUT have been working for the smooth functioning of the colleges from their inception.
“We have always worked at par with the permanent faculty of the colleges (wherever available) in making the future of the students without thinking about our own and have always contributed for the betterment of the system,” a spokesperson of Jammu Kashmir College Contractual Teachers Association said.
“We have carried out all our assignments with complete dedication, enthusiasm, honesty and zest. We have devoted the prime of our lives to the department and have always regarded our services as worship. Most of us have crossed lower age limits in serving the system and are now not being considered for the different jobs advertised by the Government,” the spokesperson said.  Besides being appointed on merit basis by a competent authority through proper channels, they said every year they have to compete with fresh candidates to get in the system and still they have no job security.
“While as the previous regimes have considered the low qualified candidates over us by giving them job security in the form of many SRO’s like that Rehbar taleem, Rehbar Kheal, Rehbar Ziraat, Rehbar junglaat, Rehbar Sehat,” the spokesperson said.
There are various states that have decided to regularise contract employees with three years of service.
“We are highly qualified candidates having degrees like Ph.D., M. Phil, and NET/SLET/JRF. But the department has never paid any heed to the grievances of the highly qualified candidates,” they said.
While serving the department most of them have crossed the lower age limit and are now earmarked as “educated, unemployed, handicapped youth” of the UT.
“Although our nomenclature were continuously altered either as adhoc, contractual, academic arrangement or now need based and anything else, but our determination of being sincere, heartfelt and unfeigned was standstill, but unfortunately our sense of job insecurity could never been addressed, and is the main reason why our 700 hundred candidates across the JKUT knock the doors of JK high court to get justice under JK special provisions act 2010,” they said.
They claimed that the provisions of which were always violated by the previous regimes of the erstwhile JK State.
“We would like to avail this unique opportunity in expressing our immeasurable gratitude to former Governor, Secretary Talat Parvaiz Rohella and Prof.Mohd Yaseen Shah Director Colleges for playing their constructive role and assurance for job security to this educated marginalized lot,” the spokesperson said.
They have served and said they are ready to serve the department at exiguous remunerations/ salaries and will always contribute to maintain the educational skeletal alive throughout the JKUT.
“We demand that the JKUT govt will provide us the same job policy as most other indian states provide especially Our neighbouring state Himachal Pradesh provide recently. Based on the fact, we would like to request LG GC Murmu, Chief Secartary BVR Subramanyam and the concerned Advisor K K Sherma to extend their support in saving our future, which immediately need their kind intervention by passing an immediate directions to the concerned authorities to provide the job security/policy on the same pattern as the Himachal Government provide to their highly educated ones,” they added.(KINS)
