Anantnag, June 21: As part of preparations for the forthcoming Municipal Elections, a meeting of National Conference Town Committee members was convened at Housing Colony, Khanabal, Anantnag, under the chairmanship of Senior National Conference Leader and Vice President Anantnag, Imran Amin Shah. The meeting was attended by Town President Bashir Ahmad Najar, former Municipal Chairman Gh Hassan Dar, former councillors, ward presidents, and other senior party functionaries.
During the meeting, participants emphasized the need to further strengthen the party’s organizational structure at the grassroots level and intensify public outreach programmes across all wards of the town. The leaders resolved to mobilize party workers and engage closely with the public to address civic concerns and highlight the party’s vision for comprehensive urban development.
Addressing the gathering, Imran Shah reaffirmed the party’s unwavering commitment to the holistic development and welfare of Anantnag town. He called for a comprehensive and transparent investigation into the alleged irregularities, large-scale corruption, and misappropriation of developmental funds in the Municipal Council.
Imran Shah questioned the continued silence of the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor’s administration on the matter and urged the authorities to make public the findings of the inquiry reportedly conducted against the previous Municipal Council administration. He asserted that transparency and accountability are essential for restoring public confidence in democratic institutions and ensuring responsible governance.
Referring to the recent administrative action taken by Hon’ble Health and Medical Education Minister Ms Sakina Itoo in the GMC Cardiology Department Anantnag, Shah stated that the time has come for the administration to place before the public the facts surrounding the alleged misuse and embezzlement of developmental funds in the Anantnag Municipal Council. He maintained that those found responsible must be held accountable strictly in accordance with the law.
Expressing concern over the town’s developmental challenges, Shah remarked that Anantnag continues to suffer from a significant infrastructure deficit. He alleged that corruption, favoritism, and administrative inefficiency have impeded the town’s progress, resulting in congested roads, inadequate civic infrastructure, poor drainage systems, and a decline in the overall quality of urban services.
Reiterating the National Conference’s vision for Anantnag, Shah stated that the party remains fully committed to restoring the town’s historic prominence and transforming it into a modern, well-planned urban centre equipped with improved civic amenities, efficient traffic management systems, sustainable infrastructure, and enhanced public services.
The meeting concluded with a collective pledge by party leaders and workers to further strengthen the National Conference at the grassroots level and work tirelessly to address the aspirations and concerns of the people ahead of the upcoming Municipal Elections.
