Chandigarh : The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday (October 16, 2025) said they have arrested a Senior Indian Police Service officer of the 2009 batch, presently posted as Punjab Deputy Inspector General of Police, on charges of bribery.
According to an official statement, he was arrested along with a private individual, in a bribery case involving ₹8 lakh. The officer was also allegedly seeking recurring monthly illegal payments from the complainant.
The arrested officer Harcharan Singh Bhullar was posted as DIG, Ropar Range in Punjab.
During searches at various premises linked to the public servant in Punjab and Chandigarh, the CBI seized substantial cash and incriminating material, including cash of approximately ₹5 crore, documents pertaining to immovable properties and assets in Punjab, jewellery weighing about 1.5 kg, keys of two luxury vehicles (Mercedes and Audi), 22 luxury watches, locker keys, 40 litres of imported liquor, one double-barrel gun, one pistol, one revolver, and one air gun along with ammunition among others.
“Both accused have been arrested and will be produced before the designated court on October 17. Searches and further investigation are continuing,” it said.
