Srinagar, : Amid rising concerns over delays in addressing corruption cases, officials in Jammu and Kashmir have underscored the need for dedicated courts for the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on the lines of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) court.
This move, they argue, will streamline the judicial process and expedite justice in corruption-related matters.
A senior police officer while talking to CNS emphasized the urgency of the matter, highlighting that the existing courts are overburdened with a variety of cases, resulting in delays in corruption trials.
“There is a dire need for a specialized court exclusively for corruption cases. The current judicial setup lacks the bandwidth to handle the growing number of corruption cases promptly,” the officer said.
Jammu and Kashmir’s Anti-Corruption Bureau has been at the forefront of combating corruption, filing numerous cases against individuals and entities across the Union Territory. However, the absence of a dedicated judicial mechanism to handle these cases has led to a backlog, slowing the delivery of justice and potentially diluting the deterrent effect of legal action against corruption.
Drawing a parallel with the NIA, which has its own courts to address cases of national security, the police officer argued that a similar model could be replicated for the ACB. “The establishment of ACB-specific courts would not only speed up the resolution of cases but also send a strong message about the government’s commitment to eradicating corruption,” he added.
Legal experts also echoed these sentiments, pointing out that specialized courts often result in a more focused and efficient judicial process. “Corruption undermines public trust and governance. Quick and decisive action against the guilty is essential to restore faith in institutions,” said a prominent advocate. (CNS)
