New Delhi, July 16, 2025: In a significant boost to infrastructure and religious tourism, the Ministry of Railways has sanctioned a Final Location Survey (FLS) for a new rail line between Jammu and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra, spanning a length of 77.96 kilometers. The survey will be conducted at an estimated cost of ₹12.59 crore, paving the way for the future construction of this crucial rail corridor.
The Northern Railway will serve as the executing authority for the FLS, which marks a key step toward enhancing connectivity to the iconic Vaishno Devi shrine. Once completed, this additional railway line is expected to ease travel for lakhs of devotees, offering a more direct and efficient route between Jammu and Katra.
Officials say the proposed line will not only support pilgrimage and tourism but also foster economic development in the Jammu region. The initiative reflects Indian Railways’ continued efforts to modernize its network and improve accessibility to areas of strategic and public significance.
