In preparation for the forthcoming General Elections to Lok Sabha 2024 in District Ganderbal, an insightful online workshop was conducted specifically tailored for media personnel of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Held in Ganderbal district, the workshop delved into crucial themes essential for the effective functioning of media in the electoral process. The Workshop in Ganderbal was attended by the Journalists, Media Persons from Print, Electronic Media, and Online Portals alongwith the District Level Master Trainers and Deputy District Election Officer, Mr. Aabid Iqbal Malik (JKAS).
The workshop, organized under the auspices of Chief Electoral Officer, Jammu and Kashmir, focused on two paramount themes:
1. Role & Importance of Media in Elections:
Distinguished speakers elaborated on the pivotal role media plays in shaping public opinion, disseminating information, and fostering transparency during electoral processes. Through engaging discussions and case studies, participants gained profound insights into the significance of media in ensuring fair and democratic elections. Emphasis was laid on the ethical responsibilities of journalists and media houses in upholding the principles of unbiased reporting and objective analysis.
2. Media Facilitation & Media Regulations:
Another significant aspect addressed during the workshop was media facilitation and regulations. Experts elucidated on the importance of providing adequate support and facilities to media personnel for efficient coverage of elections. Furthermore, discussions centred around the existing regulatory framework governing media activities during elections, aiming to foster an understanding of compliance and ethical conduct among media practitioners.
The workshop served as a platform for media personnel to exchange ideas, share best practices, and enhance their knowledge and skills in reporting on electoral processes. By empowering media professionals with pertinent information and insights, the workshop aims to contribute towards fostering a robust and informed democratic ecosystem in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
