Srinagar : A large number of devotees on Monday thronged gurdwaras to mark the 554th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev, the founder of Sikhism.
Braving the cold weather, worshippers flocked to the city’s Gurdwaras to attend special prayers and sermons and paid obeisance at Gurdwaras on Gurpurab.
The main function was held at Gurdwara Chatti Padshahi in the Rainawari area of old Srinagar city, while Amira Kadal and Jawahar Nagar Gurdwaras also witnessed heavy rush of devotees.
Many religious and social organizations had arranged “langars” for the devotees at these Gurdwaras.
Devotees expressed their happiness with the arrangements made by the authorities for the festival.
The Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, greeted the people on the auspicious occasion of Guru Nanak Jayanti.
In a message, the Lt Governor has said, “On the joyous and auspicious occasion of Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s Jayanti, I convey my heartiest greetings to all.
Guru Nanak Devji’s profound message of equality, brotherhood, truthfulness, compassion and the importance of leading a virtuous life continues to guide and inspire humanity. Let us, on this day, resolve to follow his noble teachings and rededicate ourselves to the cause of humanity.” (GNS)
