Batote : National Conference Party Vice President Omar Abdullah on Saturday said that the incumbent government has failed to remedy ills afflicting people of Jammu and Kashmir even as he described policy of providing land to the homeless people as “vague” and a “matter of concern”.

Continuing its series of zone meetings in Jammu and Kashmir, a special meeting of Chenab Valley Zone was held at Batote Ramban. JKNC Vice President Omar Abdullah presided over the meeting. Party Treasurer Shammi Oberoi, Provincial President Jammu Rattan Lal Gupta, Chenab Valley Zone President Sajjad Kitchloo, Senior leaders Ajay Kumar Sadhotra, Khalid Najeeb Suharwardi, Javed Rana, Babu Rampaul, District President Ramban Sajjad Shaheen, Provincial President YNC Jammu Ajaz Jan, and other provincial level officials and Chenab Zone functionaries, constituency in-charges, DDC Chairperson, DDC members and party delegates attended the meet.

In addition to organizational issues and party programs, the current political situation, difficulties faced by the people were discussed at length in the meeting. The participants informed the meeting about the party activities and ground situation besides highlighting the problems and difficulties of the people in their respective areas.

Lamenting the administration for its harsh and anti-people measures, Omar said, “The incumbent government in J&K has failed to take pro-people measures. On the contrary it never fails to cease any opportunity to push the people of J&K to wall with its harsh decisions. I also know that sometimes the government has to take difficult decisions, but the present government has not done anything substantial. Be it in the matter of ration, lands or in the matter of smart meters, the government has not shown any relaxation anywhere. We are not against smart meters, but first you should look at the financial condition of the people here and take measures to improve it by increasing employability as was promised to us on 5th of August 2019.”

He said it has become a norm in J&K that after the recruitment process gets completed, the very next day it is rejected and on the third day an inquiry is ordered and in this whole process, our youth remain unemployed as a result of which most of the candidates cross the upper age limit. He said daily wagers, artisans and laborers are in trouble, as they don’t know from where they will get their livelihood tomorrow.

The NC Vice President said that imposing restrictions on our activities will never stop the communication between J&K National Conference and the people. “These restrictions are not new for us. After 5th August 2019 this has been going on continuously, now we are used to it and we have also learned a little how we have to deal with these situations. These people will impose restrictions, but we will continue to do our work,” he said.

Describing the vague policy of providing land to the homeless people as a matter of concern, Omar Abdullah said, “The government says that they will allot land to the homeless and we ask, how did you choose them? When did these people come here to whom you will provide lands? How long have these people been staying here? We had demanded the government to fix a date in this matter and said that after August 5, 2019, allotment of land should be avoided to those who are not eh indigenous inhabitants of J&K. We are hopeful that we will get justice from the Supreme Court and put a stop to these dubious actions.”

Abusing the government’s claims on security, Omar Abdullah said that if the situation is good, why are elections not being held? If the situation is good, then how did attacks like Rajouri and Poonch happen? He said that in the past few months armed militancy is being witnessed in areas which were declared militancy-free. And this situation reflects the failure of the incumbent administration.”(GNS)
