With this initiative JK Police will catch up with “One Nation One Challan System”, which will not only benefit the citizens but also the police, the DGP said.

“The traffic regulation itself is a big challenge especially on highways during winter however enforcement is equally important,” he said as per per a statement to GNS, adding, “Both regulations & enforcement have to go hand in hand for better traffic management.”

He said that introduction of e-challaning by Traffic Police is another milestone achieved in the implementation of e-governance and that it will definitely bring transparency in traffic management and enforcement.

The DGP said that the integrated system will ensure transparency and data reliability. The e-challaning, he said, will reduce the chances of unnecessary altercation between violators & enforcers.  “It will ultimately help in maintaining road discipline.”

He said that it will enable police to assess the required data of any violator through Vahaan database. He also appreciated the coordination of the Transport department & NIC for providing the data of the vehicles which he said will ensure accountability and regulation. The DGP also thanked J&K Bank for their support and association with JK Police.

Baldev Prakash while speaking on the occasion lauded the role of J&K Police in tackling different challenges for more than three decades. He said that while J&K Police is working 24X7 for the safety and security of the people, J&K Bank is working for the prosperity of the people, according to the statement. He said that J&K Bank is delighted to be a part of the e-challan initiative. “It will benefit the traffic police in providing hassle free and more people friendly service.” He said that the collaboration between JKP and JKB will go a long way. “JK Bank will provide a good amount as ex- gratia to the NoKs of Police martyrs and will also launch schemes for the students belonging to martyrs families.”

Earlier IGP Traffic J&K Vikramjit Singh gave a detailed briefing regarding the working of JK Traffic Police and the strategy in the immediate future to offer better service to the citizens of J&K. He informed that in J&K e-challaning was started in September 2020 and J&K Bank initially provided 160 e-challan Android POS (Point of Sale Machines). The JK Bank has now further provided an additional 250 upgraded POS. He said that to ensure hassle free adoption of new technology over 100 training sessions across the J&K have been conducted for enforcement officers.

He said that an amount of Rs 9.6 crore has been realized from the violators so far as 4.01 lakh challans were made. He said that from August 2022 Internet Payment Gateway (IPG) has also been introduced in association with J&K Bank for the benefit of commuters to remit their fines online. He said that the Traffic Police has created a grievance cell at every traffic unit to address the grievances of the people. IGP Traffic said that the strategic priorities for JK Traffic Police are technological interventions, transparency, focused interventions, education and awareness.(GNS)
