Srinagar: Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, on Tuesday said that no Kashmiri Pandit working under the Prime Minister’s Development Package has resigned recently in protest against killing of a community member in Kashmir Valley.
“As per information provided by the Government of Jammu and Kashmir, no Kashmiri Pandit working under the Prime Minister’s Development Package has resigned recently in protest of the killing of a Kashmiri Pandit in Kashmir Valley,” MoS Home Nityanand Rai said in a written reply in Lok Sabha.
“The Government has taken several measures to ensure safety of Kashmiri Pandits in the valley,” he said while responding to clubbed question by four parliamentarians.
He said a “robust security and intelligence grid, day & night area domination, proactive operations against (militants), round the clock checking at Nakas, patrolling in the areas where the Kashmiri Pandits reside, deployment of Security Forces at strategic points to thwart any (militant) attack.”
“Under the Prime Minister’s Development Package (PMDP), 5502 Kashmiri Migrants have been provided Government jobs,” he said in the reply, a copy of which lies with GNS. “Government has also approved construction of 6000 transit accommodations for Kashmiri Migrant employees engaged/to be engaged in different departments of Govt. of Jammu and Kashmir in the valley.” Further, he said, the Government of Jammu and Kashmir has launched a portal on 7 September 2021 to address the grievances of Kashmiri Migrants.
Meanwhile, in a separate reply, he said, 28 migrant workers were killed in J&K since 2017.
“As per the information provided by the government of Jammu and Kashmir, 28 migrant workers have been killed since 2017, out of which two belonging to Maharashtra, one from Jharkhand and seven from Bihar,” he said.
He also stated that there has been a “substantial decline” in the number of militant attacks in J&K—from 417 in 2018 to 229 in 2021.
He said there have been a few targeted attacks on people belonging to minority communities and migrant workers by militants. (GNS)
