Srinagar: Five ‘hybrid’ militants of Lashker-e-Toiba and its offshoot TRF were arrested in Srinagar and Sopore on Thursday, police said.
“Two hybrid (militants) were arrested by a team of Srinagar Police & (army’s) 50RR. Names: Naveed Shafi wani of Khrew Pampore & Faizan Rashid Teli of kadlabal Pampore,’ police said in a tweet, adding, “Arms/ammunition, explosives & incriminating material like 4 pistols, live rounds, 16 gelatine sticks, grenade etc. recovered.”.
Meanwhile a senior Police officer told GNS that both were are affiliated with TRF, said to be outshoot LeT.
Meanwhile, police said three militant were arrested in Sopore area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district following a tip off about their movement.
“Today on a specific input regarding movement of (militants) a joint naka was established at 18:40 hours by police, (army’s) 52 RR and 177 battalion CRPF at Takyabal Krankshivan in Tarzoo Sopore,” a police spokesperson said in a statement to GNS. “During checking a suspicious movement of three persons was observed who were coming from Dharnambal towards Takyabal and on seeing the naka party suspected persons tried to flee from the spot but the security forces apprehended them tactfully.” During their searches two pistols, he said, two magazines, 10 pistol rounds, one hand grenade, one Ak-47 rifle were recovered from their possession.
During questioning, he said, they revealed their identity as Rahid Mushtaq Ganie son of Mushtaq Ahmad Ganie of Amargarh, Amir Shafqat Mir son of Mohammad Shafi Mir of Amargarh and Tahir Nisar Sheikh son of Nisar Ahmad Sheikh of Baag-e-Rehmat Sopore.
“Preliminary investigation revealed the arrested individuals are uncategorised (militants) of LeT, who were planning to attack security forces and civilians.”
Accordingly, he said, a case under relevant sections has been lodged at Police Station Tarzoo. “Further investigation is still going on.” (GNS)
