Paris: French President Emmanuel Macron on Wednesday refrained from accusing Russia of committing genocide in Ukraine. During an interview with France 2 broadcaster today Macron accused Russia of committing war crimes and said that those responsible ought to be brought to book but avoided laying charges of genocide against them. “So far, it has been established that war crimes were committed by the Russian army and that it is now necessary to find those responsible and bring them to justice,” Macron said. He added “I am very careful with some terms [genocide] these days,” he added. “I’m not sure the escalation of words is helping the cause right now.” US President Joe Biden had on Tuesday upped the ante against Russia by accusing it of carrying out “genocide” in Ukraine. In strongly worded message the US President said that Vladimir Putin is “trying to wipe out the idea of even being Ukrainian”. UNI
