Dhaka: The family of Muhibullah, chairman of the Arakan Rohingya Society for Peace and Human Rights, who was shot dead by assassins, has left Bangladesh for Canada due to insecurity. Sources said that they left for Canada on a Turkish Airlines flight at 11pm on Thursday (March 31). On the night of September 29, 2021 Muhibullah was shot dead by miscreants at his office in Lambashia area of Ukhia. Late Muhibullah’s family has been feeling insecure ever since. For this, they applied to two international organizations seeking asylum abroad. According to a source in the Arakan Rohingya Society for Peace and Human Rights (ARSPH), an organization formed by Muhibullah, Muhibullah’s wife Nasima Khatun, in collaboration with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM), has relocated Muhibullah’s nine children and a son-in-law. The Canadian government is expected to grant them refugee status. Muhibullah, 48, was shot dead by miscreants at a Rohingya camp in Ukhia, Cox’s Bazar on the night of September 29 last year. His family has blamed the Arakan Salvation Army (ARSA), an armed group in Myanmar, for the killing. Muhibullah was killed because of his activism for Rohingya repatriation, and his popularity in the camp. UNI MAZ RKM
