New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday announced that the national capital will have a residential school where education and training will be imparted to students to enable them to join the armed forces after education. The “Shaheed Bhagat Singh Armed Forces Preparatory School” will come up in Jharoda Kalan area and be spread over 14 acres. It will offer free education to students living in Delhi, Kejriwal told the media. “Retired military personnel will be part of the faculty,” the CM said, adding that students will be trained in “officer-like qualities” so that they can apply to join the army, the navy and the air force. He called the opening of the school a tribute by the people of Delhi to revolutionaries Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru, who were hanged by the British rulers on March 23, 1931 in the Lahore Central Jail. There will be separate hostels for girls and boys enrolling in the school, Kejriwal said. The Chief Minister said 100 students each will be admitted in Class 9 and 11 respectively. Around 18,000 applications have already been received for the 200 seats, he said. Tests will be conducted on March 27 and 28 for admission into Class 9 and 11 respectively, he said.
