Kyiv: President Volodymyr Zelensky has said that about 100,000 people were evacuated from Ukraine over the past two days following an intensification of the Russian military campaign. The people have been taken out through humanitarion corridors, Zelensky said on Thursday night. He said the evacuation took place from the cities of Sumy, Trostyanets, Krasnopillya, Irpin, Bucha, Hostomel and Izium. “Almost 40,000 people have already been evacuated…” “We are doing everything to save our people in the cities that the enemy just wants to destroy,” he said. “Although we did everything necessary to make humanitarian corridor work, Russian troops did not cease fire,” he said. On Thursday, authorities in the besieged Ukrainian city of Mariupol said Russian forces have begun dropping bombs on the “green corridor” designated to evacuate Mariupol residents, CNN said. Earlier, the Mayor of Mariupol, Vadym Boychenko, also issued a furious video message condemning what he called Russia’s “cynical and destructive war against humanity” and said every 30 minutes the city was invaded by Russian forces. The Mayor said humanitarian aid cannot get through to Mariupol for the sixth day in a row. Meanwhile, regional authorities in eastern Ukraine said 20,000 people were evacuated from Sumy on Thursday.
