Srinagar: A day after a Handwara resident was allegedly murdered in Ferozpore, Punjab Police on Saturday claimed to have arrested both the accused within 24 hours and solved the case.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SP), Ferozpore Narendra Bhargav told Rising Kashmir over phone that the colleagues of deceased Mushtaq Ahmad Mir resident of Handwara (Kashmir) lodged a missing report at Saddar Police Station, stating he had not returned from work.
The SP said on this complaint, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was constituted to ascertain the facts. He said on Friday morning the police found a body of a Kashmiri resident wrapped in a bag after which the investigation into the case was speeded up.
During the course of investigation, the SP said that all technical and scientific methods were used to nab the culprits. “After hectic efforts while executing all means of intelligence, both accused were arrested”, the SP said.
He identified the accused persons as Sonu son of Janta Singh of Sodhe Wala and Beant Kaur wife of Shaan Singh, resident of Ave Ke Hall.
“A bicycle (PB 66 A6489) used in commissioning the crime was also recovered and seized.
Besides FIR No. 36 stands registered in Police Station Sadar Mundai, Ferozpore under Sec 302”, the SP said.
Meanwhile, Kashmiri shawl sellers in Punjab expressed gratitude to the Punjab Police and the concerned civil administration for utilizing timely efforts in nabbing the criminals.
