Mumbai: India’s wholesale inflation eased to 12.96 per cent in January this year, an official data released by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry on Monday showed. According to the data, the WPI in January has shown a decline from 14.87 per cent in November and 13.56 per cent in December last year. However, the WPI in January this year is higher as compared to the numbers reported in January 2021 which was 2.5 per cent. “The high rate of inflation in January, 2022 is primarily due to rise in prices of mineral oils, crude petroleum & natural gas, basic metals, chemicals and chemical products, food articles etc as compared to the corresponding month of the previous year,” according to the ministry’s statement.
