Jammu June 22: Department of Students Welfare, Cluster University of Jammu organised an online session on “Yoga at Home, Yoga with Family” to commemorate 7th International Yoga day for the student and teaching fraternity dedicated to the theme, ‘Azaadi ka Amrut Mahotsav’.This Yoga session aimed to bring together key stakeholders to spread awareness among students and teaching fraternity in promoting their mental and physical well being. About 150 students and teaching faculty from Constituent Colleges, PGI Schools of CLUJ and other colleges participated in the event. Prof. Bechan Lal, Vice Chancellor, Cluster University of Jammu in his presidential remarks exhorted that Yoga is a priceless gift from our ancient Indian tradition that builds a communion between man and nature and also helps in ensuring holistic health of every individual. He opined that the message of Yoga in promoting both physical and mental well-being of humanity has never been more relevant than these turbulent times when people around the world are embracing Yoga to stay healthy and rejuvenated and to fight social isolation and depression.
Ms. Sai Sanyukta Vaddadi and Ms. Himani Choudhary , Yoga experts held virtual live demonstrations of various Yog Asanas and apprised the participants about their immense benefits to fitness , peace of mind and reducing stress and anxiety.
Dr. Twinkle Suri, Dean Students Welfare CLUJ in her welcome address asserted that the theme of International Yoga Day this year ‘Yoga at home, Yoga with family’ much relevant for our times in a society still recovering from the impact of Covid-19 pandemic.To live through these unprecedented times,yoga is the best thing to adopt as a lifestyle habit for good health and mental well-being.
An Inter- College Yoga Competition was also organised by the Sports Wing under the aegis of office of Dean Students Welfare,where in students from each college performed 2 Asanas each virtually which was evaluated by the team of Physical Directors from constituent colleges and Mr Anil Gupta,Yoga Coach from J&K State Sports Council . In Men Section, Riddham Angotra ,MAM College secured Gold Medal, Sideshwar Sharma , SPMR College secured Silver Medal and Neel Sagar, GGM Science College, Bronze Medal where as Anirudh Jamwal, GGM Science College and Arun Bhagat, MAM College, secured 4th and 5th Positions.
In Women Section, Nitika Sharma, GCW Gandhi Nagar secured Gold Medal, Akriti Langeh GGM Science College secured Silver Medal, Anushka Koul, MAM College, secured Bronze Medal whereas Rama sharma, GCW Gandhi Nagar and Jasmeen Kour , GCW Gandhi Nagar,secured 4th and 5th Positions.
Deans of PGI Schools , Principals of Constituent Colleges, Coordinators of several wings and Assistant Deans also graced the event. The Organising team headed by Dr. Vinod Bakshi, Physical Director, GGM Science College & Sports Coordinator , CLUJ who also gave a formal vote of thanks included Physical Directors, Mr. Azaj Malik, (SPMR )Dr Mandeep Singh(GCOE ) Ms. Neenu Gupta, (MAM) and Dr. Roopali Slathia , (GCW, Gandhi Nagar) who also anchored the event .
