Srinagar 14 January: Srinagar witnessed minus 8.4 degree celsius last night, which is the coldest night recorded by the MET in the last 25 years, breaking the minus 8.3 degree celsius recorded in 1995, as per the weather forecaster.
According to weather officials, last night’s temperature was the lowest, -8.4 degree celsius, in the previous 25 years with the minus 8.3 degree Celsius was recorded in the year of 1995. “The last night’s temperature was the second-lowest in the last three decades with the lowest one of minus 11.8 degree celsius recorded in 1991,” said the forecaster that Wednesday’s night in Srinagar was the second coldest night in the last three decades.
He further said that the temperature during the day would remain around minus 5-6 degree celsius in Srinagar.
However, the temperature recorded in Pahalgam was -11 Degree Celsius. Qazigund -10 Degree Celsisus, Kokernag -10.3 Degree Celsius, Gulmarg -7 degree Celsius, Leh – 14 Degree Celsius and Drass -28.3 Degree Celsius.
Pertinently, Tuesday night had recorded the -7.8 degree celsius which had taken aback the people as not such a dip in temperature was seen in Srinagar in recent years other than in January 2012. Whereas Wednesday’s night temperature, beating the earlier night, plunged to the lowest of -8.4 leaving the taps, pipelines, ponds and lakes frozen during the morning hours. (KNB)
