Bloody chapter in the Kashmir turmoil history comes to an end
Srinagar, 05 Nov: Notorious government gunmen Papa Kishtiwari, who was in custody, over the charges of extra judicial murder of a Nishat man serving died in police hospital Srinagar on Thursday, after he suffered a to cardiac arrest.
Sources said that Papa Kishtiwari felt chest pain on Thursday morning and the jail authorities immediately shifted him to Police Hospital Srinagar, where he succumbed.
“According to doctors, who attended him, Papa Kishtiwari had suffered a massive heart attack, which he could not survive,” added the sources.
Ghulam Mohammad Lone alias Papa Kishtiwari was a dreaded Ikhwani gunman accused of murdering at least 150 civilians only in Pampore and surrounding areas, over more than 17 years, before his arrest.
He was currently languishing in Central Jail Srinagar in the a case he, while he and his associates were accused of having brutally murdered a contractor Ali Mohammad Mir from Brain Nishat, in broad daylight and an FIR vide number 16/2007 under section 364, 342, 302, 201 of RPC of Police station Nishat.
Kishtiwari used to operate in south Kashmir, where villagers accused him of extra-judicial killings during his reign as an Ikhwani commander and an important deputy of slain Ikhwan founder Kuka Parrey.
Kishtiwari had been a junior officer in CRPF before the onset of militancy in 1990. According to police records, he had joined Al-Jihad militant outfit and was arrested in 1993. He was released after 21 months of jail to join the counter-insurgent outfit Ikhwan.
With the death of Kishtiwari, a dark chapter of black side of Kashmir’s turmoil history has also come to an end. (KDC)
