Srinagar, Oct 17: A top Lashker-e-Toiba militant, an “IED expert”, was killed in encounter with a joint team of police, army and CRPF in Larnoo area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, police said on Saturday.
“On a specific input regarding presence of (militants) in Larnoo area of Anantnag, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by Police, army’s 19RR and CRPF’s 164 battalion in the area,” a police spokesperson said in a statement .
“During the search operation, as the presence of (militants) got ascertained he was given opportunity to surrender, however he fired indiscriminately upon the joint search party which was retaliated leading to an encounter.”
In the ensuing encounter, he said, one foreign militants identified as Nasir alias Shakeel Saab alias Shak Bhai, “A Category militant and an IED expert affiliated with LeT” was killed.
“Incriminating materials including arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter. All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation and to probe his complicity in other crimes.”
In this connection, he said, a case under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Larnoo and investigation has been initiated. (GNS)
