Srinagar, Oct 17, KDC: A foreign Lashkar-i-Toiba militant was killed in a gunfight with government forces
in Larnoo area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Saturday.
A senior police official told news agency KDC that one foreign militant was killed in an encounter in Larnoo, Anantnag, whose body was later retrieved from the encounter site.
He said the slain militant was identified as Nasir @Shakeel Saab @Shak Bhai, adding that he was an IED expert and an ‘A’ category militant, affiliated with proscribed militant outfit LeT.
He said that incriminating materials including arms & ammunition was recovered from the site of encounter which has been seized for case records and further investigation.
“”In this connection a case under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Larnoo and investigation has been initiated,” he said.
Earlier, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by Police, 19RR and 164Bn CRPF on a specific input about presence of militants in Larnoo area of Anantnag.
During the search operation, the presence of militant got confirmed and he was given the opportunity to surrender, however he fired indiscriminately upon the joint search party, which was retaliated leading to an encounter that ended with the killing of Let militant. (KDC)
