Srinagar, Oct 13, KDC: Part time sweepers and helpers, engaged with Directorate of Health Kashmir on Tuesday, staged a protest to demand implementation of minimum wages act and regularization of their services.
According to news agency Kashmir Dot Com (KDC) dozens of part time sweepers and helpers of the Health department assembled near Polo Ground Srinagar on Tuesday and staged a protest press their demand for implementation of minimum wages act in their favor and regularization of their services.
The protestors were raising slogans and had held placards in their hands, with their demands written on those.
One of the protestors said, “We want implementation of minimum wages act for us and release of salaries under SRO 460 since 2018, which guarantees a minimum salary of Rs. 225 per day.”
“All other departments have implemented the act, but ironically we have not been given the benefit of this act so far,” he said.
He said that Director Health Services Kashmir has already submitted a proposal to the government for implementing minimum wages act for part time sweepers and helpers working in the department, but the higher authorities are silent to act on the proposal.
Another protesting worker said that their regularization is pending since 1994 and they have not so far been considered for regularization, despite repeated requests to the authorities, which is an injustice with them.
“We demand regularization of our services and implementation of SRO 460 in our favor”, he added.
The protestors requested LG Manoj Sinha and authorities in the Finance Department to consider their request at the earliest and implement minimum wages act for them and also regularize their services. (KDC)
