Srinagar, Sep 19: As militant groups in Kashmir face shortage of arms and ammunition, Pakistan-based militant groups have developed ingenious ways to ensure they can continue supplying weapons. Militant outfits have now started dropping weapons across the borders through drones, Director General of Police said on Saturday.
“Pakistan is trying to disturb peace in Jammu and Kashmir by using drones to drop weapons. They are also trying to infiltrate militants. Dropping of weapons by drone is challenging but we have been able to restrict such acts and have got some success,” DG said .
He further stated that the neighbouring country is trying everything possible to fuel militancy in the region by providing all the support to the militant organisation.
He was addressing a press conference in Rajouri after Police on Saturday claimed to have arrested three south Kashmir militants along with arms and ammunition in Rajouri area of Jammu.
Police said in statement that on the specific input an operation was launched in Rajouri town on the intervening night of Friday-Saturday and forces were successful in arresting the three militants from South Kashmir.
He identified the arrested trio as Rahil Bashir @Ayaan Bahi of Pulwama, Amir Jaan @Hamza of Kakapora and Hafiz Younis wani @Zubair of Shopian.
He said 02 AK-56 rifles , 06 AK magazines with 180 rds, 02 Chinese Pistol, 03Pistol magazines with 30 rds, 04 grenades , 2 pouches and 1lakh cash was recovered from the possession of arrested trio.
A police officer while confirming the arrest of trio said that an FIR under relevant sections of law stands registered and further investigation are on.
BSF, which mans the borders, has been put on high alert as the recurrence of weapon-dropping drone sorties have gone up.
A top official said that eight such sorties were conducted in recent times and have come to notice.
One such drone was recently shot down in Kathua by the BSF while three drone sorties were intercepted near Jawahar tunnel apart from the latest, he added. (KDC)
