Srinagar, July 20: District Administration Srinagar Monday sealed various shops and imposed a fine up to the tune of Rs 80,000 from shopkeepers and people for allegedly violating Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s).
As the administration was busy in cracking down of the shopkeepers in city centre Lal Chowk, hundreds of people were seen flocking at Eidgah to purchase sacrificial animals.
Sources told news agency that a team led by Tehsildar South Mrs Rabia inspected many parts of Southern city and exacted fine from the violators. Some shops were also sealed and fine imposed.
Even fine was imposed from those who were found not wearing masks. At Regal Chowk, some shopkeepers were seen staying inside their shops.
“People take this infection lightly. They must show some seriousness and maintain lockdown,” Mrs Rabia told adding that Rs 80,000 were collected as fine from the violators.
As the crackdown on few opened shops were going on, back in down town Srinagar, hundreds of people were seen mingling at Eidgah, busy in buying sacrificial goats.
“The huge rush of people hardly made one believe that lockdown is in vogue.”
