Srinagar, May 28: A major incident of vehicle borne IED blast was averted by the timely input and action by Pulwama Police, CRPF and Army, IGP Kashmir Zone Vijay Kumar said on Thursday.
Talking to media personnel in Police Control Room (PCR) Srinagar, IGP hailed the timely action of Police, CRPF and Army who after recieved reliable input averted a major incident of a vehicle borne IED blast in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
“From few weeks Pulwama police were recieving inputs that militants associated with JeM and HM are jointly planning to carry out an IED blast any time but after prompt and speedy action of forces, militant’s design was frustrated in a technical and professional manner”, IGP said.
IGP said, “Pulwama Police, Army and CRPF laid Nakka in the district on Wednesday night during which they fired some warning shots after seeing a Santro car in which militants were travelling”. He said the militants fled from the scene and was caught at another Nakka where they abandoned the vehicle and escaped from the spot by taking advantage of darkness.
IGP added subsquently the car was taken into custody and on Thursday morning Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) was brought who techically and professionally defused an IED.
Termed the action by forces a ‘big success’, IGP added militants were intended to carry out a big misadventure on eve of Jang-e-Badr and a local militant namely Adil Ahmad, who works for both JeM and HM, was given the task to carry out the attack. He added that militants were palnning to target the forces convoy in a same manner as they rammed IED borne vehicle on February 14, 2019 in Srinagar-Jammu highway in Lethpora area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
