Shopian, Apr 22, KNT: Four militants were killed in an overnight encounter at Melhora village of South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Wednesday.
Official sources said that Melhora village was brought under cordon on Tuesday night after inputs about the presence of militants. A joint team of Army’s 55 RR, police in Shopian and CRPF laid a siege.
Militants hiding in a residential house opened fire on the Forces when they launched search operation.
The exchange of fire continued intermittently during the night while Forces had installed flash light to stop militants from escaping from the village.
Sources added that during the exchange of fire, four militants were killed who are believed to be locals.
SSP Shopian Amrit Paul Singh told KNT that four unidentified militants were killed in the encounter. “We have called the families and they are on way to identify them. We will hand over the bodies, once the identification process is over,” he said.
This was the second deadly encounter in a week. On 17 April two militants were killed in Keegam Shopian. (KNT)
