Srinagar, Apr 25: The Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) wing of Jammu and Kashmir Police on Saturday carried out a search operation inside Central Jail Srinagar in connection with an ongoing terror-related investigation, officials said.
According to officials, the searches were conducted on April 25 after obtaining a warrant from a designated court under the NIA Act in connection with FIR No. 06/2023 registered at Police Station CI Kashmir.
The case involves charges under Sections 153-A, 505, 121 and 120-B of the IPC, along with Sections 13 and 39 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
An official said the operation was launched following technical inputs indicating the presence of suspicious digital activity within the jail premises. “Searches were conducted in several barracks and blocks in coordination with prison authorities,” he said.
During the operation, officials recovered digital communication devices along with other incriminating material, which have been seized for further investigation.
“The confiscated devices will undergo forensic analysis to trace possible links and identify any broader network associated with the case,” the official added.
Authorities have also initiated a probe to determine how such devices were smuggled into the high-security facility and whether any insiders or facilitators were involved.
The official said the operation is part of continued efforts to prevent the misuse of communication tools in sensitive institutions, particularly prisons, and to strengthen investigations into terror-related activities across the Union Territory. (CNS)
