Pulwama, April 15: Continuing its sustained drive against illegal mining in the district, J&K Police in Pulwama have seized three vehicles found involved in the unauthorized extraction and transportation of minerals.
Official sources said that a police party from Police Station Litter laid a checkpoint at Panjran Lassipora as part of ongoing efforts to curb unlawful mining activities. During checking, the police intercepted three vehicles, including a JCB bearing registration number JK18C-7721, a dumper bearing registration number JK13E-1633, and a tipper bearing registration number JK13A-8007.
During inspection, all the three vehicles were found to be involved in illegal mining activities. Acting promptly, the police seized the vehicles on the spot and initiated legal proceedings in the matter.
In this connection, FIR No. 43/2026 under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 3 of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act (PPD Act) has been registered at Police Station Litter. Further investigation into the case has been taken up.
Police said that the action is part of a broader campaign to check illegal mining, which not only causes loss to the public exchequer but also poses a serious threat to the environment and public infrastructure.
J&K Police reiterated its commitment to taking strict legal action against those involved in illegal mining and appealed to the general public to remain vigilant and report such unlawful activities to the nearest police station so that timely action can be taken.(KNT)
