Ganderbal: Government Degree College Ganderbal under the aegis of Viksit Bharat on Wednesday organised a lecture on “Adapting Cyber Legislations: Addressing Challenges & Solutions” by the department of computer applications at the college conference hall.
The lecture was delivered by Dr. Aneeda Jan, Assistant Professor(Law) Center for Distance & Online Education, University of Kashmir. The principal of the college Dr. Fouzia Fatima, Prof. Qurat Ul Ain H.O.D, Department of Computer Applications, faculty members of various departments and students of the Computer Applications Department, GDC Ganderbal attended the lecture.
Addressing the participants, Dr. Aneeda said, “Of all the significant advances made by humanity till date, probably the most important is the development of the internet. (global network of computers of them speaking the same language)”, “our Ancestors hardly had any inkling that the internet could transform itself into an all-pervading revolution which could be misused for criminal activities & which required regulation”.
Dr. Aneeda further said that to regulate activities and address the challenges thrown up by cyber criminals, cyber law came into existence and further defined cyber law as a generic term which refers to all the legal & regulatory aspects of the internet and added that anything concerned with or related to or emanating from any legal aspect or issues concerning any activity of citizens & others in cyberspace comes within the ambit of cyber law.
Stressing on the importance of cyber law, the speaker said, that it is imperative for all the citizens to know the basic laws that are linked with day to day activities in cyber space. Dr. Aneeda, threw light on different articles governing cyber law along with the national scenario with respect to cyber laws. She also gave insight about IT BILL 1999, Information Technology Act 2000.activities
In the final leg of the lecture, Dr. Aneeda discussed various jurisdictional challenges being faced by the legal enforcement agencies in view of the complex and wide space available to cyber criminals for carrying out cybercrimes. The expert also enumerated various possible solutions that can be put in place to cater to the challenges. A few of the possible solutions introduced by the speaker include amendments to existing laws, strengthening international cooperation and enacting robust data protection frameworks.
Speaking at the session, principal of the college, Prof. Fouzia Fatima stressed upon the participants to ensure, to follow ethics in every walk of life and take such events seriously, to change the outlook towards society so as to contribute best towards humanity by way of good deeds and following the law for good. Prof Fouzia further underscored the pivotal role of educational institutions in promoting awareness and understanding of cyber legislation among students and faculty members alike.
In the beginning of the session, Prof. Qurat Ul Ain, organizer of the event, formally welcomed the guests and participants and gave an outline of the special lecture and explained the importance of the lecture in view of the various cybercrimes that are being faced by the mankind in contemporary times and a desperate need of understanding the cyber legislation and its adaptation to tackle various cybercrimes and contribute towards the better society.
The lecture was immensely engaging as the attendees actively engaged with Dr. Aneeda Jan during the question and answer session, exploring practical implementation strategies and enforcement obstacles related to cyber legislation. The session exemplified the department of computer applications’ commitment towards promoting academic excellence and facilitating informed discussions on pressing issues in the field of technology and law.
The event ended with a vote of thanks by Anaab Firdous, guest faculty in the department of computer applications who expressed heartfelt gratitude to the speaker, principal and all the participants for their valuable contributions and active participation to make the event a great successful.
