Srinagar, : At least twenty water supply schemes have gone defunct, leaving as many villages without water supply in sub-division Mendhar of Poonch district.
A local delegation told GNS that there is no potable water supply for last several days as the flash floods have left the infrastructure shattered at many places. The most affected villages, they said include Chatral, Narole, Chhungn, kalaban, Salwah, Kallar, Manjari, Dhargloon, Gholad, Harni, Gursai, Sarola, Kari, Dharati, Pajni, Sakhimadan and Tera.
The claims have been nonetheless seconded by the officials. AEE PHE Sub-division Mendhar, Sajid Ahmed told GNS that the infrastructure has suffered a huge damage and as such there is no supply of potable water to the affected villages.
Executive Engineer Poonch, Munir Ahmed has said that there is loss to at least twenty water supply schemes. “It is a big loss to the Jal Shakti Department which will take much time for us to cover”, the official said.
Meanwhile, the locals have urged authorities to hasten the process to repair the damaged infrastructure for an early restoration of water supply. (GNS)
