Mumbai: The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) has announced a 10.76 per cent change in the Wholesale Price Index for the calendar year 2021 as compared to the corresponding period in 2020. A revision in the WPI implies an increase in the prices of over 800 essential scheduled medicines will increase from April 1, 2022. “Based on the WPI data provided by the office of the Economic Advisor, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the annual change in WPI works out at 10.76607 per cent during the calendar year 2021 over the corresponding period in 2020,” the NPPA said in a notice issued on Friday. The list includes of scheduled drugs such as Paracetamol, Sodium Valproate, Amoxicillin, Glimepiride and Diclofenac, among others that are used to treat diseases like fever, diabetes, epilepsy, common cold, etc. “This is brought to the notice of all concerned for further action as per the provisions of Drugs (Price Control) Order 2013”, NPPA added.
