New Delhi, Aug 10 :The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has informed the Lok Sabha that there are only two people who have purchased properties in Jammu and Kashmir since the abrogation of Article 370, in which the former state’s special status was removed, thus making way for people from other states to buy land.
The MHA has said in a written reply in Parliament that there are only two people who have purchased properties in Jammu and Kashmir in the past 2.5 years since the Centre’s action.
As per the information provided by the Jammu and Kashmir administration, two people from outside J&K have purchased two properties in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir since August 2019.
The revelation came from MoS Home Nityanand Rai in Lok Sabha in response to an unstarred question.
The MHA has further said that no instance of hardship was experienced by the government and people of other states purchasing property in J&K.Article 370 gave exclusive rights to the residents of Jammu and Kashmir with its special status, which was removed in a landmark move in 2019 when the state was also bifurcated into two Union Territories.
