Srinagar, Nov 12: Jammu Kashmir Apni Party (JKAP) President Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari on Thursday said the party has not given up the fight for restoration of Article 370. He added that JKAP will continue its fight about alteration of land laws and restoration of statehood.
Addressing a press conference at his residence here in Sheikhbagh Srinagar, Bukhari said that Jammu Kashmir Apni Party (JKAP) has not abandoned from the struggle initiated for the restoration of Article 370. “We are concerned about Article 370 however the case is in the Supreme Court. We have five MPs who unfortunately failed to protect the special identity of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir”, Bukhari said, and added “Our hope lies on the Supreme Court as five MPs can’t bring back the Article 370”.
Bukhari said it is the demand of JKAP that statehood for Jammu and Kashmir should be restored. “We demand statehood should be restored soon. The top leadership of the country on the floor of Parliament has promised with people of Jammu and Kashmir and rest of the world that it (statehood) will be given back to J&K”, JKAP President said.
He said the party will continue its fight for statehood restoration. “The special status can’t be undo till 272 MPs would vote for its restoration”, he said.
To a query, former minister of J&K said that the party has chosen ‘Bat’ as a symbol for elections. “My party members are like true sportsmen and it is why JKAP has chosen Bat symbol for polls”, he said.
While hailing the decision of PAGD in contesting upcoming DDC polls, Bukhari said that the decision taken by the group regarding polls states that it took Late Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah 22 years to realize the right track, while the alliance chosen the right path in less than a month which is a welcome development.
He said it was good to see leaders associated with the PAGD shunning the ‘emotional slogans’ as such things have always swayed the youth of Jammu and Kashmir towards wrong. (KNS)
