Srinagar, Oct 06: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir range Vijay Kumar on Tuesday said that it is impossible for security forces to check each and every vehicle on Srinagar – Jammu highway as it would lead to “unnecessary” trouble to travelers while clarified that frisking of vehicles is being carried out only after credible inputs.
IGP who was talking to reporters on the sidelines of wreath laying ceremony of two slain CRPF personnel at STC Humhama on the outskirts of Srinagar, said that CRPF lost two of its men yesterday after militants fired indiscriminately at the Road Opening Party (ROP) at Kandizal area of Pampore in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
“Two bike borne militants among one was a Pakistani national while another was local carried out the attack. We have put our human intelligence alert and soon the attackers will be neutralized”, IGP said.
He said soon after the attack, security forces launched Cordon & Search Operation (CASO) in adjoining areas but the militants managed to flee.
IGP further said that the attackers will be killed soon as they have been identified.
Pertinently two CRPF personnel on Monday were killed by militants in Kandizal area of Pampore on Srinagar – Jammu highway who later on were identified as CT DVR Dhirendra and CT/GD Shailendra Kumar both from 110 BN CRPF. The attack left three more CRPF personnel injured whose condition according to IGP is out of danger.
IGP, when asked about frequent attacks on security forces on highways, said that there was nothing to worry as “situation is absolutely under control”. “We are working on a plan to prevent highway attacks”, he said.
Notably on February 14, 2019 JeM militant Adil Dar rammed his vehicle to a CRPF convoy at Lethpora area of Pulwama district on 270-km long Srinagar Jammu highway left 40 forces personnel dead on spot. The attack was considered a deadliest one during two-decade long insurgency in Kashmir.
Meanwhile IGP CRPF (Operations) Kashmir Deepak Ratan, during wreath laying ceremony refuted the rumors that militants snatched weapons from the slain CRPF personnel after the attack.
“Our jawans were killed in the attack but no weapon was snatched from the slain personnel”, IGP CRPF was replying to a query. (KNS)
