Rajouri: Authorities have ordered a probe into death of an accused who as per police’s preliminary report committed suicide by hanging himself inside police lock-up in Rajouri district on Friday morning.
Identifying him as Abdul Majid of Parghal Darhal, officials told GNS the individual was in custody on a police remand.
Confirming it, SSP Rajouri Mohammad Aslam told GNS that an investigation has been launched to collect necessary details into the incident. “Once the things become clear, we will share them accordingly”, he further said.
Later in a statement issued here, police said, that at around 09:15 a.m., one accused namely Abdul Majeed (42)” who was arrested in case FIR No. 90/2021 U/S 341/354 IPC”, committed suicide by hanging himself in the washroom of the lockup of Police Station Darhal. .
“Accused was also wanted in case FIR No. 98/2021 U/S 452/376 IPC,” a police spokesman said in the statement.
“Soon after the incident, a team of senior officers of Police and Civil Administration reached the Police Station and inspected the site and all legal formalities were conducted under their supervision,” he said, adding, “Thereafter, the post mortem was conducted by a board of doctors at GMC Rajouri.”
After all the legal procedures, he said, the body was handed over to the legal heirs family for last rites.
“A magisterial enquiry in this matter has also been initiated,” he said. (GNS)
